A lifetime obsession with maps and a real-life tragedy come together in this emotional piece. A true spectacle of the forces of nature, MARIA transmits the effects of the incredible floods brought on by the namesake hurricane in Puerto Rico in 2017. In the aftermath of the storm, with the powerful images and nightmares of the constant rain still fresh, the artist captures his feelings on the canvas, projecting the reticula of the city, with floods coming from the river, and the heart of the people coming together and saving the town. To create contrast, matte finishes were used for dry land, versus the glossy finish of the flooded area. The piece is an expression of humanity in its most fragile state.

Una obsesión personal con los mapas y una tragedia de la vida real se unen en esta emotiva pieza. Un verdadero espectáculo de las fuerzas de la naturaleza, MARIA transmite los efectos de las increíbles inundaciones provocadas por el homónimo huracán en Puerto Rico en 2017. Tras la tormenta, con las poderosas imágenes y las pesadillas de la lluvia constante aún frescas, el artista captura sus sentimientos en el lienzo, proyectando la retícula de la ciudad, con las inundaciones provenientes del río y el corazón de las personas que se unen para salvar la ciudad. Para crear contraste, los acabados mate se usaron para tierra firme, versus acabados brillosos para representar las áreas inundadas. La pieza es una expresión de la humanidad en su estado más frágil.
