Natividad (Nativity) is a colorful fantasy where each mosaic represents freedom to experiment with different brush strokes and drawing styles. Fernando Bonnin created this large canvas during the two months of Christmas, between December and January. The artwork features superimposed flat geometric shapes delicately balancing plastic elements, often including fragments of images of people, places, and objects from Puerto Rican art and architecture. Bonnin’s small wooden figures, designed between 1987 and 1989, were an early example of his later artistic production. In Natividad, the artist incorporated his initials “F,” “R,” “B,” and “O” as part of the design in a playful touch.
